SJB pleads for release of Ranjan Ramanayake

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday made a fervent request from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to consider the release of former MP Ranjan Ramanayake who is currently serving a jail term.

SJB National Organizer Tissa Attanayaka made these remarks after signing a petition, prepared by a group of people requesting President Rajapaksa to consider the release of Ranjan Ramanayaka considering the irreparable service he made towards the prosperity of the country’s film and tele drama industry.

A large number of people including film and tele drama actors and actresses, journalists, politicians, ordinary people and well-wishers from all parts of the country attended the event to make their signatures in the petition and requested the President to consider the release of Ranjan Ramanayake.

Attanayaka further said that only the President according to the Constitution has the authority to release Ramanayake considering he was neither a criminal nor a murderer or has been involved in any kind of illegal activity.
