Easter Sunday attacks: AG files indictments against 46 suspects

The Attorney General has filed indictments against 46 suspects in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.

These cases are being heard in 11 High Courts including two Trial-at–Bar in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kegalle and the Nuwara Eliya districts on the request made by the Attorney General

Cases have been filed against 25 terrorists including Thowheed Jamath Leader Mohammed Saharan who blew himself at a hotel and Naufer Mowlavi who is in remand custody for allegedly aiding and abetting the attacks.

Former IGP Pujith Jayasundera and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando have been indicted for negligence of duties before Courts and these cases are being heard.

Indictments have also been filed against those who were involved in vandalizing Buddhist statues in Mawanella, suspects who failed to make complaints against those who spread IS ideologies, suspects who carried out a blast in Kaththankudi as an experiment and suspects who conducted Madrasa classes.
