The annual social welfare programme where needy families are provided dry rations, financial aid and educational aid to children conducted by the Jayakirana Company in Delgoda was once again held at the company premises on New Year’s Day.
Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Ananda Ganepola was the chief guest.
A number of social services were carried out including the provision of dry rations to more than 500 families, the provision of cash along with dry rations to the elderly who receive monthly financial assistance from this institution and the donation of school books and educational equipment to 5,000 schoolchildren under the concept of the Managing Director Chandrasiri Vithanage.
Lunch was also provided to everyone who participated.
In addition, the day was further enlivened by a concert and musical show in which a number of famous artistes in the country took part. Ven. Heenipalle Anurasiri Thera, Chief Incumbent of Malwana Yatihena Sri Wimalakeerthiyarama was also present on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Vithanage described his humble beginnings and challenges and difficulties he had to face in developing his company to its present status. He said he had started the welfare programme as he knew the difficulties the poorer sections of the society go through as he himself was from one of the poorest families in the area. Vithanage said he would continue the social services programmes he launched as long as possible.
