Police force to be strengthened with over 25,000 recruits

State Minister Dilum Amunugama stated that steps have been taken to recruit 28,600 recruits to the Police service.

State Minister Amunugama said that steps will be taken to deploy two police officers in each Grama Niladhari Division for the Community Police Service. He said that the initial interviews have been carried out to recruit 28,600 police officers, and several teams are currently undergoing training at police training colleges.

It is hoped that the establishment of new police stations will reduce the number of Grama Nilardari Divisions that come under one police station, the State Minister said.

As an example, he pointed out that the Katugastota Police alone had 91 divisions and it is difficult for an OIC to view 91 divisions and that the opening of the Aladeniya Police Station would reduce the 30 divisions belonging to the Katugastota Police.

Amunugama said that although the current methodology is to increase the marks of an OIC by the reduction in crimes, the OIC’s marks will decrease if the crime rate in his area increases in the future.

He also said that the number of police officers had been increased to 100,000 on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
