Twenty Seven year old Nimesh Premathillake, an old boy of Kingswood College,Kandy is an outstanding Rugby player who played along with his brother Rumesh, who captained the Kingswood College Rugby team. Nimesh was also interested in the game of rugby from his younger days and followed his brothers footsteps and started playing Rugby for the School team from the year 2010 onwards at the Under 16 level.
He played as prop-forward and he was coached by Rohitha Mendis, former Anthonian rugby player under the captaincy ofAsela Wijesinghe. In 2011/2012 he was not involved in serious Rugby as he had to concentrate on his studies but after that he continued playing with the assistance of his brother. In the following year, in 2014 Nimesh played under AselaWijesinghe and helped Kingswood college to become third at the All Island Schools League rugby
Tournament. The League tournament was won by St.PetersCollege, Colombo and the Runners-up title was taken by Trinity College,Kandy. Nimesh was selected to the Kandy Sports Club Rugby team under the captaincy of GayanWeeraratne in the year 2015 and their team became both League and Knock-out Champions.
In the year 2016 he joined the Sri Lanka Army and represented the Army Regiment Rugby team at the Inter Unit Competitions. In the following year in 2017 he was playing for some time before he was injured and he had to give up his rugby playing until he joined the rugby team of Kandy Sports Club and started training under the coaching of Fazil Marija and BuddhikaThalgampola.
Nimeshâs intention is to continue playing rugby for a long time till he is fit to do so and he is thankful to all his School authorities of Kingswood College, rugby Coaches as well as his brother for encouraging him to improve rugby and to the Kandy SC for the support given to him.
