‘Don’t neglect health guidelines’

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said it is important to keep the Covid situation in mind and follow the necessary health guidelines, even if the country has opened up under the ‘New Mormal’, as Sri Lanka needs to manage Covid as well as the economy.

He said that if people act responsibly while the country is open, the Government will be able to curb Covid and stabilize the economy.

He made this statement at a media briefing held in Kandy on January 2. Speaking further the Health Minister stated as follows: “It is hoped that the necessary legislation will be introduced soon to make it mandatory to obtain both doses of vaccines to enter public places.”

“Those who have received both doses of the vaccination receive immense protection. If the people fulfil their responsibilities properly, we will be able to manage the economy and defeat the Coronavirus. We request people to assist us by avoiding doing things that will promote the spread of the disease. We urge the people to support us in preventing the spread of the disease.”

“Now tests are being carried out to detect cases of the Omicron variant. We have discovered 40 patients infected with the Omicron variant of the Covid virus in our country. We rank fourth out of 194 countries in vaccination. Our gratitude should go to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. It is clear from the number of reported cases and deaths that vaccines have proved to be of great protection. Fourteen million vaccines have been ordered for the booster dose.

They are being received now. People are requested to get the booster dose at the first opportunity.”

“Lockdown is the easiest thing to do when it comes to managing the pandemic. However, the world has recognized the fact that a lockdown is the final resort,” Health Minister Rambukwella said.
