Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa should reveal to the country how he would find money for the relief package announced by the government to alleviate the burden due to rising cost of living, Jathika Jana Balawegaya (National People’s Power) leader, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said. He said such concessions should be defined as relief only if the generation of required funds is justifiable.
MP Dissanayake was speaking to the media after visiting the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters in Kandy yesterday.
He said the Parliament has a right to know how the Finance Minister is planning to generate such an amount even after the Budget 2022 has been passed in Parliament about a month ago. “The government has printed a large amount of money so far, as a result of which the prices of goods and services rise on a daily basis. If more money is printed it creates a crisis,” he said.
The MP said that there are many crises in the country. Therefore, the present political journey should be changed. For that, the JJB has a proper plan, he added. “Our country is going towards an abyss due to the improper political and economic policies that were followed for a long time. We are attempting to create a government that will develop this country. Therefore, I request the public to join us and contribute to stop this destructive political practice”, he stressed.
