I want to play for my country, says rugby player Vidura

Viduna Amaneth Hathurusinghe played School rugby as a nippy scrum half for his alma mater Kingswood College, Kandy first XV team in 2021 at the Inter-School rugby tournament. He is the younger brother of Kingswood College first XI cricketer Ruwantha Hansana Hathurusinghe.

Speaking exclusively to Daily News, Vidura said “My Brother is my role model. He is a renowned Cricketer in our school, so it made me enter the world of sports”. “My family supported me to come this far. So I’m grateful for the support I have received from all my family members throughout this journey so far”.

“My father is the one who inspired me to choose rugby and that’s the reason why I chose rugby”.

“There are a lot of people behind me. I’m ever so thankful to my family members, my coaches, senior players and my captain and the teammates especially for supporting me right throughout to become who I am today. Hence I’m always grateful to all of them”. “Playing rugby house matches for the Inter House Sports meet made me choose Rugby”.You must play hard and also you must have the ability to make quick decisions”..

“My favourite cricketer is Akila Dhananjaya and during my leisure time I usually play tap rugby with my friends”. “The first time they picked me to represent my School’s 1st XV Rugby team against St.Joseph’s in 2020 was my most unforgettable memory in my life so far and to date I really cherish that moment”.

“My main priority is to look after my family, so I always give the top place for my family and my favourite holiday destination is Sydney in Australia”.

“I always try to compare myself to my father and brother, but I know it’s not that easy to become like them, but I’m trying my best to do so whenever I can”. “Getting through my ordinary level exam was my greatest Accomplishment so far”. “Yes of course. Surely I am very happy with all my achievements thus far as a young boy and I always do what I believe”.
