Power cuts, if demand swells - CEB

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) General Manager, M.R.Ranatunga told the Daily News yesterday that power cuts will have to be implemented only if the demand swells up suddenly.

He said the generators currently in operation are capable of generating the required electricity and the available fuel stocks also can be used sparingly to provide an uninterrupted power supply.

Public will have to experience shorter power cuts only if the demand for electricity goes up suddenly or in case of a failure of a generator, he added.

The CEB said it has not scheduled any power cuts during the weekend. The Public Utilities C ommission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has granted approval to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to implement power cuts as per the requirement from today (10), PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ranatunge said.

He told the Daily News yesterday that permission was granted as per the CEB’s request and the power cut schedule will be announced by the CEB, if necessary.
