A community property, once used for a government school has been abandoned for about three years in Iti Tenpala in Viyaluwa, Badulla.

The Iti Tenpala Primary School had to be abandoned for the average daily school attendance was very poor, affecting the teaching and learning process, an official from the Zonal Education Office of Viyaluwa said.

Education Director for the Viyaluva Education Zone H.M. Dhammika Herath added that if the local public can guarantee attendance for an effective teaching and learning process, the authorities concerned will be able to take action to reopen the school at the earliest. People of the area urge local political and community leaders to launch a campaign to make people aware of the importance of the reopening of the school for their children.

They urge the Government to utilize the property and the few buildings to at least carry out a rural development project for the benefit of the local public.
