Arrest unscrupulous TU activists under PTA – Passenger Union

Coastal Railway Passengers’ Association Chairman Deshamanya Gunapala Vitarana lodged a complaint with the Galle Police on Saturday (15) calling for legal action under the Prevention of Terrorism Act against those involved in the sudden Railway trade union action without prior notice, inconveniencing thousands of passengers.

The complaint addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) further states that the Railway unions went on an arbitrary strike causing immense hardship and inconvenience to thousands of passengers, including overseas tourists.

“Such trade union actions cannot be justified as fair-minded union struggles. The strikers were among those who had caused damage to public property, including train carriages,” Vitharana further asserts.

His complaint also states that it is an act of terrorism to betray thousands of passengers, including school children, government employees and tourists who had obtained tickets and season tickets about a month ago, and that those involved should be arrested and prosecuted under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
