Trinity bounce back in second half to beat Wariyapola Sri Sumangala

Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College Kandy ruggerites delighted their fans on Saturday at the Pallekele rugby grounds by leading 14-10 at half time against a talented Trinity College side which played this game without their captain Tehan Karunanayake who is out of Kandy as he was sitting for an exam. Trinity College came back in the second half to beat Wariyapola Sri Suamangala College in the friendly game by 46 points (three goals and five tries) to 14 (Two goals), Sri Sumangala College’s two goals came off due to two tries from Srinath Ranasinghe, Sahan Prabath Dharmasiri which were goaled by Mohamed Arafath a big hand should go to coach Dinesh Gamage. A fifteen a side rugby game in Kandy came after many months. It was only in the second half the Trinitians were so much better in play.

Sri Sumangala College played a good game of super rugby to lead in the first half; they really started well, but failed to keep it up in the second half. Trinity College after starting slowly played a different game in the second half thanks to coach Kavinda Jayasena’s advice in the half time, which helped them with a couple of tries, kept their composure and exerted good pressure to come back from behind and play a good game.

In the first half Sri Sumangala ruggerites were dominant in every facet of the game.

On a few occasions Sri Sumanagla guys were smarter in the game, they are sure to improve as a top side. And in the second half,Trinity players got the break and did their best. Win or lose all-in the game, it was good to see a schools XV a side game after many months

Kandy Youth CC have it easy

Kandy Youth C.C. led by Chatura Kumarasiri and coached by Sylverstrian Rohan Jayatissa gained a comfortable 8 wicket Victory with bonus points over Sinha SC Ambepussa in the first game of the Governors Trophy Division-1 tournament match played at Wickremabahu College Turf wicket.

Kandy Y.CC won the toss and invited opponents to bat first and bowled them out for 90 runs in 28 over’s with Shashika Basnayake taking 4 for 29 and Maleesha Silva 3 for 29 In reply Kandy Youth CC made 92 for 2 in 21 overs Yasiru Gamarachchi - 47 not out and Chatura Kumarasiri 20 not out
