Sixty-two at Ruhuna College of Education test Covid positive

Rapid Antigen Tests have confirmed that 62 students at the Ruhuna National College of Education (RNCE) have been infected with the Covid virus, the Akmeemana Medical Officer of Health office sources said.

Twenty Covid infected teacher trainees were sent to the Arachchikanda Covid Centre in Hikkaduwa on Saturday (22) and the other trainees infected with the virus are to be sent to the Idalkanda Covid Centre in Elpitiya, the MOH said. The Akmeemana Medical Officer of Health said that steps have been taken to quarantine the close associates of the infected teachers.

A total of 104 staff members including teacher trainees of the RNCE were subjected to Rapid Antigen Tests. More than 500 second-year teacher trainee students are studying at the college.

The Ruhuna National College of Education was recently used as a Covid treatment centre.
