A man guilty for molesting his wife's younger sister was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court yesterday.
The order was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige and the judge also ordered the accused to pay a fine of Rs.100,000 to the victim girl and a fine of Rs.100,000 to the government.
According to the evidence transpired during a lengthy trial, the underaged girl had been taken to a hotel room while taking her to the suspect’s house from where she was staying about ten years ago and raped by the suspect.
Attorney Asitha Vipulanayake, who appeared for the suspect, requested the court to reduce the sentence given to him as he is still living a family life with the girl's sister and is currently the father of several children.
Accordingly, the judge considered the requests and imposed the sentence stating that this was the minimum sentence to be given to the accused.
