Expolanka Youth Cup: Moragasmulla SC through to semis on penalty shootout

Moragasmulla Sports Club secured a place in the semi-finals of the Inter-Club Under-19 soccer tournament after edging out Renown by 4 goals to 3 in a penalty shootout at City Football League grounds, yesterday.

After some intense moments of play, both sides were unable to break the deadlock which took the game to a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Renown goalkeeper A. Shareef, whose acrobatic performance during the full time of play prevented Moragasmulla from scoring, failed to prevent them from defeat when he conceded 4 goals, while his counterpart A. Segera held his nerve to save a crucial penalty kick, while another kick was taken by a Renown player went astray.

There was not much of a difference between the two sides as they went flat out in search of scoring opportunities. The on-field referee had to calm down players from both sides who tended to play rough at times, which resulted in a couple of yellow cards and a red card being shown to the Renown skipper M.K.Z.Aher.

He eventually had a yellow card later was booked with another for rough play which resulted in him being asked to leave the field.

A. Namigara, S. Perera, N. Laksitha, and D. Adithya were spot on with their kicks for the winners, while S.M. Fazal, M. Azam, and F. Fazlullah scored for losers.
