Farmers undergoing severe difficulties without fertilizer – MP Champika

Farmers are undergoing severe difficulties due to lack of fertilizer for the Yala season, Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ramanayake said.

The MP said that the farmers cultivated crops to some extent for this season by using fertilizer that they had hidden earlier.

Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka was addressing a meeting at the 43 Brigade in Anuradhapura on February 20. He also said that the leaders have done a great damage to the country destroying the kingdoms where tanks were built in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.

“Up to now, power cuts had to be imposed only due to natural disasters but this Government has to cut off power supply due to the shortage of dollars. The Parliamentarian said that this shortage has occurred due to obtaining loans with a huge interest, which the country cannot bear. He also said that through investing in useless projects they committed frauds with loans they obtained.

“The Government has banned the import of 80 pharmaceuticals, milk powder and fertilizer as well as fuel and gas because they have no dollars. They, however, made arrangements recently to pay back loans they obtained for purchasing air craft for the country,” the MP said.

Parliamentarian Ranawaka also said that the Government will have to spend US $ 2,000 very soon and there is no way for them to pay this amount.

“The only method the Government has is to resort to rackets and scams.

The emergency fuel orders are also fraudulent. Amdist these circumstances, more than 60,000 acres of land in Moneragala are being cleared for an Ethanol factory,” the MP added.
