Shramadana to counter dengue

As the number of cases of dengue is increasing in Batticaloa, the Batticaloa Municipal Council organized a massive shramadana campaign to eradicate the dengue mosquito breeding places in the Periya Urani cemetery yesterday.

The public dumps garbage and there is has no proper solid waste management process here. Therefore, the health employees of the council have been deployed to clean the entire premises. Heavy machinery is also used to clean the cemetery grounds.

Health authorities have cautioned the public to keep dengue-prone areas completely clean and those who do not comply will be prosecuted.

Batticaloa Mayor T. Saravanapavan, Deputy Commissioner U. Sivaraja, Municipal Councillors K. Ragunathan, V. Poopalaraja and T. Rajendram were present to guide the workers.
