WHO assures more support to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Permanent Representative Alaka Singh assured Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa that the WHO has already taken every possible step to extend its fullest co-operation and the assistance towards improving Sri Lanka’s health situation.

The WHO representative made these remarks during her brief meeting with the Opposition Leader at the latter’s official residence in Colombo.

During the meeting the WHO representative Alaka Singh said the WHO has also discussed with several other international organisations how they could help to solve Sri Lanka’s current needs, especially to the ongoing economic crisis.

Sing also said Sri Lanka is not isolated by the WHO or any other countries, especially at this crucial juncture and assured that the WHO is bound to improve the country’s health sector.

Responding to her remarks, Opposition Leader Premadasa said even many international nations have already assured their assistance to our country and we have also had fruitful discussions even with the United Nations Organisation (UNO) regarding the country’s current economic crisis and the need of developing the health sector.

He said it is our bounden duty to improve our health sector, especially at a moment like this.

Premadasa said he is very happy to say that many international organisations have already extended their unstinted support and the co-operation towards the development of Sri Lanka’s health sector.

The Opposition Leader further said some countries have already extended their willingness to provide us with necessary drugs and medical equipment.

Premadasa while thanking the UNO and the WHO for their continued assistance requested for further assistance for Sri Lanka during this crisis situation.
