Beware of bogus carbonic fertilizer available in the market - Agriculture Assistant Director

Puttlam District Office, Agriculture Assistant Director warned of an errant organic fertilizer manufacturing company that delivers fertilizer across the country. Puttlam District Agriculture Assistant Director Tharangika Shyamali said that the office revealed such an errant organic fertilizer manufacturing company located in front of the Norochcholai Dedicated Economic Centre. She said that on a tip-off via the phone, she visited the place along with several other officials, where they did not at least exhibit the name of the business place.

She added that workers at the place were packing materials, what they called was the organic fertilizer. However, the fertilizer bag had the name of a fertilizer manufacturing company. In the bags it was noted that the company had the approval of Agriculture Department as well as the National Fertilizer Secretariat, which the officials found was incorrect. This institution had no permission at least to deliver the fertilizer. She said that each bag contained 40 kgs and there had been 750 such sacks prepared to be transported. They found another 400 sacks in the premises. Later the District Agriculture Director Sarath Pathirana and the Army officials who arrived at the scene found the material was a mixture of ash, soil, sand etc., They also found no material used in organic fertilizer manufacturing process had been used by this business concern. The owner of the business Shaful Hameed Mohomed Rauff was absconding the authorities. One of his relative and employees were at the premises. The officials also found a place, where the salt mixed sand, ash and soil was taken as raw material in the Puttlam beach side. She said that the samples of these fertilizer were sent to the Agriculture Director for further investigation. She also said that the business had been in process for quite a long period. She added that the matter was taken up to the highest level for further investigation. She also warned the farmers to cautious in using carbonic fertilizer bought from the market. She added that manufacturing one’s own carbonic fertilizer is the most reliable, productive way in farming.
