May 9 attacks: Kahandagama surrenders to CID

Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama surrendered to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday.

He was arrested by the CID for assaulting protesters at the Temple Trees protest site and the Galle Face Green.

Kahandagama was named as a suspect in the attacks on anti-government protesters in Colombo on May 9 together with former minister Johnston Fernando.

The Fort Magistrate’s Court had recently issued an order naming him and a group of others as suspects in connection with the incident that took place on May 9. Following this, Mahinda Kahandagama had surrendered to the CID yesterday.

Kahandagama, Johnston Fernando, and several other Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members and loyalists are facing allegations of instigating the attacks on peaceful protesters.
