Colombo Bourse halts trading after index drops 5%

Colombo bourse trading was halted after index dropped 5.1-pct with the selling pressure in the market.

Thus, The All-Share Price Index decreased by 251.2 points (-3.1%) to close at 7,803.6 whilst S&P SL20 Index also declined by 108.6 points (-4.1%) to close at 2,539.1. LOLC Holdings, Expolanka Holdings, Browns Investments, Sampath Bank and LOLC Finance and remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 1,461.1 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,647.9 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 73,155.6k against the 12-month average daily volume of 224,971.9k. Capital Goods, Banks and Transportation mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs.496.2 mn (-8.7%), Browns Investments Rs. 323.5 mn (-9.4%), Lanka IOC Rs. 86.4 mn (-4.8%), Hayleys Rs.61.4 mn (-4.1%) and LOLC Holdings Rs. 48.6 mn (-11.1%). Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 49.5 mn yesterday.

Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 57.8 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs. 8.3 mn.

Top foreign buying counters AHUN LKR. 19.2 mn, JKH LKR. 9.9 mn, BIL LKR. 9.8 mn, SAMP LKR. 5.9 mn and OSEA LKR. 1.4 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were LWL LKR. (2.1) mn, SPEN LKR (0.4) mn, LIOC LKR. (0.3) mn, TILE LKR. (0.3) mn and ASIY LKR. (0.2) mn. Further, no off-board transactions were witnessed yesterday.
