Action against Fiscal Officer and Attorney - Justice Minister

Justice Minister assures Russian Ambassador of no such future recurrences
Russian Ambassador promises flights will operate and more tourists

Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe commenting on the Aeroflot flight issue yesterday said that once he receives official reports on the matter, necessary action would be taken against the Fiscal Officer and the Attorney-at-Law who had mistakenly communicated the Court order to the Air Traffic Controller of the Bandaranaike International Airport on June 2.

“The Judicial Services Commission is responsible to take action against the Fiscal Officer,” he further said. “When appearing for a sensitive case of this nature, the lawyer also has to be mindful of the gravity of the issue and the possible outcome of his actions”, the Minister stressed.

During a special meeting with Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka had assured Russia’s fullest support to Sri Lanka and to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations yesterday.

The Minister had called on the Ambassador following the suspension of the controversial Injunction Order on Russian flag-carrier Aeroflot SU-289 aircraft issued on June 2 by the Commercial High Court of the Western Province, yesterday.

Dr. Rajapakshe said he expressed his regret over the incident while assuring the Ambassador that the country will take steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

The Ambassador had assured the Minister that Russia will operate Colombo bound flights without suspension and also send more tourists to Sri Lanka from Russia.
