Dies at pedestrian crossing

A pedestrian died while trying to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing near Sir Marcus Fernando Mwawatha opposite the National Library in Colombo on Monday.

According to Police, a passenger bus which was speeding towards the pedestrian crossing had hit a motorbike which had stopped allowing the pedestrian to cross the road and later the motorbike had hit the victim.

“The rider and the victim were admitted to the National Hospital, where the pedestrian died,” Police said.

The 64-year-old pedestrian is a resident of Mawathagama. The bus driver was arrested. Cinnamon Gardens Police are conducting investigations.
