No change in MRP for rice: CAA

There will be no change in the maximum retail price stipulated for rice, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) announced yesterday.

The CAA hasnot revoked the gazette notification imposing Maximum Retail Prices (MRP) on rice issued on May 2,” a spokesman from the CAA said.

Therefore, several new reports circulating on social media that the CAA has revoked the gazette notification and has allowed traders to increase the price of rice are false. The CAA reiterated that traders should sell the rice at the maximum retail price and they should not sell rice above the MRP.

Accordingly, the Maximum Retail Prices for White and Red Nadu is Rs. 220 per kg, Rs.230 for kilo of White or Red Samba and Rs. 260 per kilo for Keeri Samba.

He said that CAA is on high alert for any trader who sells rice above the maximum retail prices and raids will be continued across the country.
