Russian House Album presented to Foreign Minister Prof. Peiris

Deputy Head of Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka Alexey Budanov presenting the Russian House Album to Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. G.L Peiris at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. First Secretary of the Embassy of the of the Russian Federation and Director of the Russian House in Colombo Madame Anastasia Khokhlova and the Chief Executive Officer of the Russian House in Colombo Buddhapriya Ramanayake were also present.

The Russian House in Colombo in honour of the 65th anniversary of Diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Russia, presented the Russian House Album which contained the history of the Russian House in Colombo to Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. G.L Peiris at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently.

Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris appreciated the quality service rendered by the Russian House for over 35 years in promoting the rich Russian culture, Ballet, music and literature. Subsequently, Minister Peiris brought forward the datum that the Russian House has always been supporting the Sri Lankan community.

He thanked Alexey Budanov and the Russian Government for the support extended in continuing the strong diplomatic ties between Russia and Sri Lanka and for the opportunity given to the Sri Lankan students to visit Russia and pursue their higher studies abroad.

Minister Peiris also expressed his delight in Association of Sri Lankan Graduates from Socialist Countries and the Sri Lanka–Russia Friendship Society’s active roles played in assisting to build stronger relationships between the two communities of the two states.

The Minister shared his historical knowledge on the two world renowned Russian personalities; Yuri Gagarin and Nicholas II who visited Sri Lanka which marked a historic social call. In presenting the album to the Minister, he stated that he recalls his visits to the Russian House in Colombo for various cultural events over the years.

Minister Peiris discussed his recent meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and said he was impressed by his ability to speak Sinhala fluently.

Alexey Budanov said that amongst the services rendered by the Russian House is the fully funded Russian Scholarships offered to 40 Sri Lankan students annually since 1960 and called for the further strengthening of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Russia in all areas in the coming years.
