Sri Lanka will play same team in third one dayer, says Nawaz

We have no intention of changing the team and batting order and our strategy is to give more chances for the players said Sri Lankan Assistant coach Naveed Nawaz at the virtual press briefing before the 3 T-20 against Australia which will be played today at the Pallekele International cricket stadium.

Both myself and head coach Chirs Silverwood are new to this team and we have started to work with the white ball team one week before the Australian T-20 series .Actually we are still new to this task and this is first series with the white ball team. We have the best team given by the selection committee and trying to get them to give of their best.

Actually we knew we had serious problems with top order batters with more dot balls and already we have to work on this issue. We have urged the players to correct their mistakes at this game and work hard said Nawaz. Sri Lankan team did their training session at Pallekele yesterday and looking to name their final team today but Nawaz hinted the same team most probably will play today’s third T-20 game.

We have to give some time to settle down for the batters and never change their positions quickly . Actually we have enough time to play more white ball games before the T-20 world cup.

The strong Australians batting line up played good cricket and during the second game we had to bowl more spinners to make challenge against Aussies and that’s why we decided to use Charith Asalanka and Dhanushka Gunatilleka as part time spinners.

Meanwhile Naweed Nawaz said Kusal Janith Perera the top order batsman and wicket keeper has a shoulder injury and subjected to surgery and so far not undergone surgery and a doubtful starter for the T-20 World Cup next October.

The Australians led by Aaron Finch already having 2-0 series win have plans to make a few changes for today’s game. The paceman Michell Starc is on the injured list with a finger injury and out of the series and Australians are expected to get few players from the Australia ‘A’ team to focus on next ODI series.
