SJB donates more equipment to schools

Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa highlighted the importance for schoolchildren to develop English Languages, Science, Mathematics skills and Information Technology (IT) knowledge.

He said the Education Department should pay special focus on enhancing these important subjects considering the interests of the younger generation who are the country’s future leaders.

The Opposition Leader made these remarks at a meeting held at Katugastota Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya in Kandy after donating computers, a printer and a smart board to the value of Rs.846,000 for children to improve their IT knowledge and related skills.

The meeting was held under the SJB ‘Sakwala’ Educational Programme. Premadasa said the SJB is the only Opposition party that fulfills the needs of people and children by donating medical and educational equipment.

“The SJB under its ‘Husma’ programme has provided medical equipment to the tune of millions to hospitals for the benefit of COVID-19 patients and other patients who receive indoor treatment,” he said.

Premadasa said in addition to digital equipment, the SJB has so far donated over 35 buses to schools for the benefit of needy children. The Opposition Leader said the world is progressing into a digital era. Therefore, it is our duty to extend a helping hand to our own children to learn Information Technology (IT) to keep up with the changing times.

The Principal and children expressed their gratitude to the Opposition Leader for donating the computers and other digital equipment which was a long felt need of the school.
