Teenage boys steal bus to obtain fuel

Homagama Police have arrested two 15-year-old schoolboys for stealing a private passenger transport bus which was in a queue near the Galawilawatta filling station to obtain fuel.

The two have confessed they had taken the bus away to steal the fuel.

The owner of the bus was informed by a driver who saw the bus being driven away from the petrol station. The owner of the bus had informed the police about the incident. Shortly after the incident, the owner and the police officers had gone in search of the bus and had found it parked near a dansela in Homagama.

The residents of the area had informed the owner of the bus that the driver was a minor. Later, the two suspects were arrested by the police in connection with the theft of the bus.

Further investigations have revealed that the two suspects had stolen the bus with the intention of stealing fuel.

One of the suspects had earlier hijacked two buses plying from the Kottawa and Maharagama terminals, also to steal fuel, police said.

The two suspects were produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court and handed over to the Probation Department for rehabilitation.
