Licences of three fuel trucks have been suspended, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said over the illegal fuel distribution on the roadside.
CEYPETCO and LIOC are conducting investigations over these incidents, he said.
Social media footage circulated showed a fuel transport truck illegally unloading fuel on the Marine Drive.
Lanka Indian Oil Corporation revealed that strict measures will be taken against unethical fuel distribution. A vehicle was seen obtaining fuel directly from a Lanka IOC fuel bowser into cans along Marine Drive. The video of several cans of fuel being loaded into the vehicle was circulated widely on social media.
In a Twitter message Lanka IOC expressed its regret over the wrongful unethical activity.
Lanka IOC said action will be taken in line with the prevalent guidelines against the transporter. Minister Kanchana Wijesekara thanked those who brought the illegal activities to the notice of the authorities.
