Artificial limbs presented to Sabaragamuwa War Heroes

Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa presented artificial limbs to War Heroes hailing from the Sabaragamuwa Province who were maimed on the battlefield at a function held on Thursday (16).

The Governor presented the artificial limbs to 12 War Heroes at the occasion. The market value of one of these prostheses is Rs.300,000.

This year alone, 66 War Heroes in the Sabaragamuwa Province have been provided with prosthetic limbs free of charge under the Ranaviru Seva Authority.

Nearly 28,000 War Heroes of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Navy and Civil Defence Force lost their lives while more than 27,000 were maimed during the humanitarian operation launched to liberate the country from the clutches of the terrorism which plagued the country for nearly 30 years.

During the humanitarian operation 2,251 War Heroes were killed and 1,571 maimed in the Sabaragamuwa Province. Secretary to the Governor H.D. Sisira, Provincial Officer of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Rohana Wijeratne and District Officer Gayan Wijewickrama were also present on the occasion.
