Tea production dips in May

Sri Lanka tea production for the month of May 2022 totalled 26.04 M/Kgs, showing a decrease of 5.06 M/Kgs vis-à-vis 31.10 M/Kgs of May 2021. All elevations have shown a decline over the corresponding month of 2021.

When compared to the 28.60 M/Kgs of May 2020, May 2022 shows a decrease of 2.56 M/Kgs. Meanwhile January to May 2022 cumulative production totalled 112.56 M/Kgs, also recording a significant decrease of 23.08 M/Kgs vis-à-vis 135.64 M/Kgs of January-May 2021. On a cumulative basis too, all elevations have shown a decline over the corresponding period of 2021.
