Peterites look for winning start against Rajans

Former champions St. Peter’s College will start their campaign for the 2022 Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘A’ Division league title with a home fixture against Dharmaraja College at Bambalapitiya today.

The Peterites seem to have a formidable combination on paper with several senior players in the line-up and should be able to overcome their initial hurdle under favourable conditions.

Led by dashing centre three quarter Sudesh Jayawickrema, St. Peter’s will look to maintain their dominance over their rivals from Kandy, having trounced the same opponents 50-14 when the two schools last met in the 2020 season.

The Rajans, no doubt, will be under tremendous pressure in their very first game of the season and they really need to make a positive start and try to retain possession if they are to challenge the opposition.

Wesley vs Vidyartha

Wesley College will start favourites to emerge victorious when they confront Vidyartha College in another ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament match at Longden Place today.

The Wesleyites, led by dynamic full back Tharusha Jayaweera are fielding as many as 11 senior players in this year’s side and they are very much confident of making an impact this season.

In fact, Wesley will have an added psychological advantage even before the kick-off of this clash having defeated the same opponents by a convincing margin of 36-6 at the same venue in the 2020 encounter.
