Circular directs public institutions to call only essential staff to office

All public institutions have been directed to call only the essential staff to office until further notice in view of the prevailing transport difficulties.

In a Public Administration Circular issued yesterday, the Heads of all public institutions have been asked to encourage ‘Work from Home’ as much as possible. The Circular, undersigned by Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary M.M.P.K. Mayadunne, said that only the minimum staff required to maintain the regular services of the institution should be called for duty. The Circular has instructed to restrict all travel of officers and conduct all meetings online to save fuel.

When it comes to taking decisions on summoning staff to offices which directly deal with the people, the relevant Institutional Heads and Regional Heads have been asked to work in close coordination with the relevant Line Ministry Secretary or Provincial Chief Secretary.

“Let the workers stay at home at all possible times and get their contribution through online means,” the Circular read. The Circular underlined that all essential services must be maintained without interruption.
