Sri Lanka owes US$ 697 mn for fuel from November ’21 to April ’22

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said on Sunday that Sri Lanka owes US$ 697 million to companies for supplying fuel for the period November 2021 to April 2022.

The Minister said that since the end of March, fuel has been available under the Indian Credit Line. He said that the Credit Line of US$ 700 million from India for fuel has been exhausted.

Minister Wijesekera added that talks have commenced to obtain another US$ 500 million loan scheme from India to buy fuel.

He said that although Sri Lanka expected that the Credit Line will be finalised in June, it has been delayed due to various technical reasons.
