Six to hang for murders committed in 2000

Six persons who were convicted for the murder of five persons in Devinuwara in November 2000 were sentenced to death by Matara High Court Judge Thamara Tennakoon yesterday.

Fifteen persons were accused of shooting and killing five persons on November 14, 2000. The convicts are Ajith Kumara alias Devinuwara Chamil, Maddumapatabendige Sumith Kumara, S Chaminda, Abeyratne , A.M.M. Namal, A.W.P. Roshan Dilruksha and A. W. P. Nishantha alias Chami.

Four accused of the case have died while five accused have been acquitted of all charges against them.
