UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara yesterday said that the election of a suitable candidate for the vacant Parliamentary slot of the United National Party will be discussed at the Party’s Management Committee on Monday (25).
The National List seat of the UNP became vacant with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe being elected to the Presidency. The Parliamentary Secretary General had informed the Elections Commission regarding the vacancy. The Party General Secretary should send the name of the person to be nominated for the vacancy which should be communicated to the Election Commission by the General Secretary of the party.
There is talk in political circles that party president Vajira Abeywardena will be nominated to fill the vacancy.
