One person was killed and another injured in a shooting incident that took place at a restaurant in the Goviyapana area in Ahangama on Thursday night, Police said.
The victim is a 40-year-old resident of the Midigama area, who had been released from prison a few months ago. The gunman had come to the restaurant during the power cut and carried out the shooting and fled the scene.
The other person who was injured in the incident had been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.
The person injured in the incident is a 19-year-old who was working as the cashier of the restaurant. The motive for the shooting or the identity of the perpetrators have not been established as yet. The body is scheduled to be taken to the Karapitiya Hospital for the postmortem examination following the magisterial inquest. Ahangama Police have initiated further investigations regarding the incident.
