Police yesterday arrested Kegalle SJB organizer Lakshman Dissanayake in connection with death of a woman. The body of the woman was found yesterday (1) at around 8.25 am in the upstairs room of the party office of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Kegalle district organiser Lakshman Dissanayake at Kalugalla Mawatha in the Kegalle town.
The deceased has been identified as Sakunthala Weerasinghe (38), a resident of Habudugala in Kegalle. A revolver was also found near the body. Kegalle police are conducting further investigations.
Police said that the deceased had been working at this party office for a number of years. She used to walk to the office from her home everyday, the police said.
Kegalle Magistrate Wasana Nawaratne yesterday conducted the magisterial inquiry over the death. The Magistrate ordered the police to hand over the body to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem. The suspect was to be produced before court yesterday evening.
