Surgeons rescue boy after gruesome hacking

Surgeons of the Badulla Hospital performed a seven-hour long surgery to rescue an eight-year-old boy of whose arms were severed with a machete at Kandaketiya in Badulla on Wednesday.

The child was attacked by a 54-year-old relative of his family, while the boy was on the way to a nearby shop to buy a phone card for his father around 6. 00 p.m. on Wednesday.

It is said that the suspect had attacked the boy with the intention of forcibly taking a Rs.100 note that was in the boy’s possession.

Following the attack, the boy was admitted to the Meegahakiula hospital with serious cut injuries to his arms and was later transferred to Badulla Hospital where the surgery was performed.
