Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Jayasuriya ordered the release of a female student and three male students of a popular school in Anuradhapura town who were arrested by the Police and produced before the Court for getting drunk and misbehaving near the Kubichchankulama tank near the new Anuradhapura bus stand on personal bail of Rs.200,000 each.
The Magistrate further ordered the Anuradhapura Headquarters Police to summon the parents of the students to the Court on April 3, 2023 and also ordered the students to appear before Court again on that day.
Only the female student told the Court through a lawyer that she pleads guilty to the charge brought against her by the Police about indecently behaving in a public place while being drunk.
The other three suspected students informed Court through their lawyer that they are innocent of the charges levelLed against them by the Police for being drunk and behaving indecently in a public place.
Police also presented the medical examination reports to Court confirming that the official medical officer had confirmed that the students were drunk at time of arrest.
