Three businessmen fined Rs. 300,000 for selling eggs at higher prices

Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Rudriraka de Silva Hevawasam imposed fines totaling Rs.300,000 on three businessmen who sold eggs at higher prices than the stipulated price.

One trader from Divulwewa was fined Rs.100,000 after he was found guilty of selling eggs at a higher price than the stipulated price.

The Additional Magistrate further ordered the confiscation of 7,500 eggs taken into custody by the Consumer Affairs Authority from the suspected businessman.

Meanwhile, Additional Magistrate Hewawasam fined Rs.100,000 each on two more shopkeepers who sold eggs for Rs.49 instead of the Government’s certified price of Rs.43.

The Anuradhapura District Office of the Consumer Protection Authority presented the suspects to the Court and stated the facts.
