Top-level Saudi Trade Delegation in Sri Lanka soon

Bilateral Cooperation in Tourism and Trade to be focussed

A top-level Saudi trade delegation will visit Sri Lanka soon to extend areas of bilateral cooperation in tourism and trade, Environment Minister Hafiz Nazeer Ahamed, who arrived from Saudi Arabia following a five-day visit to the Kingdom, told the Daily News on Saturday, September 3

Minister Ahamed visited the Kingdom as a special envoy of the Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and handed a special message from the President to Saudi Crown Prnce Mohamed Bin Salman during this visit.

The Minister said that the two parties agreed to promote tourism, promote trade and also enter into long term plans to import oil from the Kingdom. “We will be participating in the implementation of the Vision 2030 Programme, which is implemented by Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohamed Bin Salman.

Minister Ahamed said that the Saudi businessmen have shown interests in agriculture, aquaculture, petroleum industry, fertilizer-especially cocopeat. “ Sri Lanka will also participate in Saudi Arabia’s 10 million tree planting campaign envisaged by the Crown Prince,” he added.

“We have a lot of things to offer for Saudi tourists since they like family holidays”

The Minister held a number of meetings with Saudi dignitaries such as heads of Muslim World League, King Salman Foundation, Organization of Islamic Conference, Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SABIC and Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, RCCI.

He had a meeting with the officials of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry where he met Chairman of the Chamber of the board members, Riyadh Al-Zamil, in the presence of the Secretary-General Nasser Abu Hamid, members of the chamber and Leading Arab Businessman.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka Pakeer Amsa accompanied the Minister at all meetings.

A Saudi businessman tweeted following the meeting :”Excellent, Sri Lanka is a virgin county for tourism, Agrobusiness and seafood. It’s also very strategic location among Asian countries as strong & distribution point for commodities.”
