A discussion on co-existence between society, representatives of the Local Government bodies and Government officials was held at Batticaloa town hall on Thursday (01).
The discussion organised by the Federation of Sri Lanka Local Government authorities was presided over by Batticaloa Municipal Councilor M. Mathivannan.
The President has announced that all communications to any Government Department via telephone, Email and post must be replied to without any delay. On this basis, the Local Government Officials and the Local Government Representatives must attend to all communications received from the public.
In a local ward, the ward representative himself cannot attend to all the work. He has to be helped by society leaders, social activists, religious leaders, leaders representing the various ethnic groups and well-wishers of the society.
The Project Manager of the Federation of Sri Lanka Local Government Authorities Perumal Pradeep said that any proposals selected for implementation should be presented at the Local Government council meeting and only after its approval, should be forwarded for implementation.
The councillors pointed out that the challenges facing the implementation of these proposals and the lack of understanding between the elected members and the nominated members must cultivate a common platform to serve the ratepayers without any discrimination.
In short, if the councillors, Local Government officials and public representatives act in unison to serve the public.
Batticaloa Municipal Council Deputy Mayor Kanthasamy Sathiyaseelan, Deputy Commissioner U. Sivaraja, Accountant Helen Sivaraja and Project Officer of the Federation of Sri Lanka Local Government Authorities Jenee were present.
