Short-term crop cultivation to be permitted on railway reserves - Dr. Bandula

Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said that permission will be given for short-term crop cultivation on railway reserves.

The Minister said that it is given under the tax concession system.

Minister Gunawardena said that due to the urgent need for cultivation due to the food crisis, attention has been paid to provide farmers’ organizations permission for short-term crop cultivation under the railway reserve lease basis.

The Minister also said that no construction can be done on those lands, only short-term crops such as chillies, potatoes, sweet potatoes, other crops that grow in the Dry Zone, cereals, greens, etc., can be implemented by meeting the Regional Secretary at the level of farmers’ organizations.
