Compensation for damaged crop cultivations increased

The Agriculture Ministry is planning to increase the amount of compensation given by the Government for crop damage to Rs. 150,000 per hectare.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Agricultural Insurance Board to prepare a programme in this regard.

In the case of damage to paddy, chili, corn, potato, and onion crops, the payment so far was Rs. 40,000 per acre.

But now authorities have decided to increase the crop damage compensation to Rs. 60,000 per acre.

A senior official of the Ministry said that several discussions have been held in this regard.
