Canada lowers caution level for travel here

Canada in its latest Travel Advisory has lowered the risk level for Sri Lanka from ‘avoid non-essential travel’ to ‘exercise a high degree of caution’.

“Exercise a high degree of caution in Sri Lanka due to the economic crisis which has led to shortages of basic necessities including fuel, food and medicines,” the revised Travel Advisory said.

Canada has advised their nationals to keep supplies of food, water and fuel in case of lengthy disruptions and make sure to have sufficient supply of medicines if they are in Sri Lanka.

“Expect a heightened security presence. Make sure your travel documents are up to date. Monitor local media for the latest on the situation and ongoing demonstrations. Avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place and follow the instructions of local authorities, including curfew orders,” the Advisory added.
