Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara yesterday said that all estate workers will be granted a special allowance from October with the assistance of World Food Programme and the World Bank.
The Minister made this revelation at the Ministerial Consultative Committee Meeting on Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry held at the parliamentary complex yesterday.
He stated that measures will be taken to provide this allowance to the estate workers as well as the urban tenement dwellers in the face of the economic crisis on the directive of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The minister said that in view of the current crisis, measures are being taken to send more workers to countries like Japan, Korea and Israel in a formal manner.
