Are they deserving to reach the final? what have they done to get team success? We have to look at the Sri Lankan preparations for the Asia Cup.

The credit must go to Sri Lanka Cricket and its National Selection Committee headed by Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Romesh Kaluwitharana, and Hemantha Wickramaratne who worked hard for the selections. Hemantha is already with the Sri Lanka cricket team as a selector on the tour while Chairman Promodya Wickramasinghe also came to Dubai to observe this tour. But Daily News learnt that Wickramasinghe came to this tour with his own money as he couldn't get approval to come on this tour and Sports Ministry told him to go with his own money.

According to the senior official of the SLC, the National Selection Committee always does a decent job to do the selections. They get very intelligent decisions and all decisions focus on Sri Lanka Cricket's future.

"We haven't a national cricket selection policy and that is a big loss to promote the sport. Anyway the present Selection Committee has very good decisions and they give first priority to the players' fitness and then performance. SLC give all facilities for the cricketers while Selection Committee goes through their measure to select the best team for the series. Their intention is very clear to go for the T20 World Cup and build confidence among the players.

Sri Lanka named 17 member squad for the Asian Cup cricket tournament while three stand-by players already training in Sri Lanka to be ready for this event.

The Sri Lanka team is a well-balanced side while they have an experienced and young mixed team. Players like Pathum Nissanka, Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana, Praveen Jayawickrama, Maheesh Theekshana, Asitha Fernando are very good choices from the selectors, and recently all these youngsters showed their maturity and proved their presence very vital for the team. The seniors like Dhanushka Gunatilleka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga have good experience while skipper Dasun Shanaka has good leadership ability to go forward with the team.

Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma said Dilshan Madushanka is a very talented paceman while he has good potential to go forward. Madushanka the left arm paceman bowled really well and his ball to get the wicket of Virat Kholi was exceptional. Sri Lanka team senior member Bhanuka Rajapaksa also pointed out the value of Madushanka the left arm paceman on this tour. We have Binura Fernando but he got injured last moment and Madushanka has fulfilled his duty to get success and this young bowler always works hard with the bowling coach, said Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

The selectors first named Dilshsn Madushanka for the Test squad. He has been a member of the squads 3-4 times even though he could not enter the final eleven for the test team. Madushanka was really impressed during the recently concluded SLC invitational T 20 league cricket tournament and finally, selectors decided to include this young bowler in the T20 team.

Pathum Nissanka also really performed well at all three formats while Praveen Jayawickrama the leg spinner is in good touch with the ball and ready to play the game at any time. The inclusion of this type of youngsters already brought success for the Sri Lanka team.

The Sri Lanka team lost to Afghanistan in the first game. But came back strongly to win back-to-back three matches and now Sri Lanka is closer to the final. They beat India in a well-planned game. The young Pathum Nissanka, Dilshan Madushanka, and opener Kusal Mendis and experienced duo Skipper Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa did really well.

Skipper Rohit Sharma said there are no favourites in this T20 format while Sri Lanka did really well to beat us. This is good exposure for the T 20 World Cup while we never underestimate Sri Lanka. They have good players and their potential is very high and can beat any team, said Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Actually, the two openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka made 90 runs partnership in 10 overs and this was the turning point of this game said Rohit Sharma who made a good knock of 72.

173 is a defendable total but Sri Lanka batters did really well. The experienced duo Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa played a good role to finish the game said, Rohit Sharma.

Sri Lanka selectors are happy with their policies while their intention is clear to get ready for the T 20 World Cup. Fitness is very important for this T 20 game especially fielding and running between the wickets is very important and seniors and juniors have to work on it.

"We can't blame selectors. When we win the matches we praise the selection while if we lose the games we highly criticize the selectors. But their vision is very clear to select the best team and players should realize to maintain good fitness as well as keep their performance going forward.
