Twelve Indian fishermen remanded

Trincomalee Chief Magistrate Piyas Razak on Wednesday ordered the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department to remand 12 Indian fishermen who were arrested while fishing in the sea off the Mullaitivu coast for trespassing the maritime boundary, until September 20.

The Indian fishermen were arrested by the Navy and handed over to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department.

The Magistrate ordered the fishing vessel to be kept in the custody of the Eastern Naval Commander.

The fisheries officials were permitted by the Court to sell 1,611 kg fish caught by the Indian fishermen to the Fisheries Corporation.
