Train transporting fuel derails

A train transporting fuel from Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal in Kollonnawa to the CPSTL Bulk Depot Anuradhapura derailed in Tambuttegama yesterday damaging 13 concrete sleepers on the railway track.

The accident occurred on the tributary railway line connecting to the main line near the Tambuttegama Railway Station.

Two derailed oil tankers were parked at the same place at the Tambuttegama Railway Station and the remaining seven oil tankers were taken by train No. 497 to the Anuradhapura CPSTL bulk depot.

However, normal train operations were not disrupted due to this derailment.

No one was injured but the damage to the property has not been estimated yet, an Official from the Railway Department said.
